Integrated Flash Video Example

Often we use integrated video with creative static work combined with Flash to promote our events.  This uses actual acual video footage from the electrical parade (the spinning bug), with static fireworks from the Yellow Shoes print campaign, and followed with another video of actual fireworks from the Magic Castle.  I basically create the artwork and then composite the elements (video, images, music) using actionscript using a few tricks here and there to create a quick, lightweight user experience for Disneyland's Summer Nightastic event.  It's pretty simple but adds some Disney magic to a webpage.

Disney Cruise Line Interactive Maps

Map_example

One of the cool flash features on the Disney Cruise Line site is the flash maps that uses easy to update xml files plot points, ports names, control speed and adjust Bezier curves. It uses vector drawing of countries and land masses, that are loaded in to zoom in/out based on the ship’s route.  The engine was created by Leo Benitez and we use it pretty regularly.  As you can imagine, sometimes the maps get pretty intricate.

Check them out for yourself at www.DisneyCruiseLine.com
They’re found in the flash media window for each cruise itinerary.

Solution:

We developed a flash front end with lightweight framework that could easily be updated with XML data andlinks into the Disney Careers Automated Tracking System to retrieve job postings for WDPRO. Specifically I designed and developed the detail pages.

Highlights:

Full Flash, resizes with browser, Pure MVC Framework, Light-weight and XML driven

Flash Homepage Takeover, Easter Egg Promos & Virtual Tour

Link: View Project

My Role: Flash Lead, Flash Designer, Visual Designer:

I worked closely with the WDPRO Vacation Club team to help develop flash media to takeover the members homepage to promote Disney’s new Aulani Resort and Spa in Hawai’i.  I’ve been through several generations of the Disney Vacation Club site and have worked on a variety of different cycles of homepage experience.

Challenge:

Create a video wave that overflows the page to display a flash takeover.  There are basically three sections of  the takeover including a slideshow.  There is also logic to track number of page visits to turn off the takeover after a few visits.  It also needed to open and close on a div layer.

Solution:

The takeover uses external video, xml, flash stored objects and external interface calls to javascript functions to create media experience.  I also built a custom Aulani Virtual Tour application with multiple chapters of images, slideshows and music.  There also were custom ‘easter egg’ menehune banner ad / promos that revealed hidden animation and information with user interaction.

Disney Nightastic website seen with CyberHolograms

Fantasmic_nightastic
The Disneyland Resort Summer Nightastic website was designed to be 3D holographic using a technology called ChromaDepth.  The Nightastic site was the perfect medium to use this effect based off it's already slightly neon colors and dark nightime background.   Unfortunately, you'll need special 3D glasses to see the amazing 3D effects.   You can see the site also functions well without using any special  glasses.

These clear micro-optics actually 'play' the  hologram into your eyes!  What you see is a true holographic image floating on your monitor. Without the High Definition Glasses you're looking at a normal image, with them you're seeing into holographic space!
